Environmental information systems
The grid is based on the recommendation at the 1st European Workshop on Reference Grids in 2003 and later INSPIRE geographical grid systems. For each country three vector polygon grid shape files, 1, 10 and 100 km, are available. The grids cover at least country borders - plus 15km buffer - and, where applicable, marine Exclusive Economic Zones v7.0 -

EMEP grids reprojected by EEA
The original EMEP grids have been reprojected into the European standard projection in order to facilitate re-use of EMEP information on air emissions, deposition and critical loads in EEA map products. Organisations responsible for delivering national data to EMEP should always use the grid in polar stereographic projection as provided by EMEP (http://www.emep.int/grid/index.html). EEA has reprojected the grid used by EMEP for analyses on air emissions (150*150 km2 and 50*50 km2 grids covering Europe)
EEA Marine Assessment Grid
The Marine reference grid is based on the EEA reference grid. The Marine reference grid is the basis for marine assessment results that have been spatially mapped to the grid in order to ensure that data can be compared in a uniform way across the European regional seas.
