Term

biogeographical region

Term
Area of similar character in terms of the biota (fauna & flora) present in it. Each biogeographic region is based on similarity of composition in terms of the systematics (and hence evolutionary history) of the biota. The extent and boundaries of each region have been determined by changes in climate and the movement of continents, and accompanying changes in the physical and climatic barriers to migration.
