The common fisheries policy (CFP) covers the exploitation of living aquatic resources and aquaculture, and the processing and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products. These activities take place on the territory of Member States or in Community fishing waters or are performed by fishing vessels flying a European flag. Community fishing waters means waters under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of Member States. The objective is to allow sustainable rational and responsible exploitation of living aquatic resources and aquaculture in economic and social conditions appropriate to the sector.
