Cyanide is a carbon-nitrogen chemical unit that combines with many organic and inorganic compounds. It most commonly occurs as hydrogen, sodium and potassium cyanide. Hydrogen cyanide is a colourless gas with a faint, bitter, almond-like odour. It is miscible with water and alcohol. Sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide are both white solids with a bitter, almond-like odour.
