SPA: Special Protection Area, designated under the Birds Directive.
SCI: Includes Sites and proposed Sites of Community Importance and Special Areas of Conservation designated under the Habitats Directive.
Notes:
- From 2005 onwards the area calculation for SPAs and SCIs is based on GIS data. Before this date the tabular data were used.
- The Natura 2000 network is composed out of overlapping SPAs and SCIs. For the Natura 2000 area calculation the overlaps between the sites have been accounted for. The calculation of the Natura 2000 area is only available from 2011 onwards.
