We, at the European Environment Agency, would like to bring our data and knowledge on Europe’s environment to life through your stories. In not more than a paragraph, can you tell us what actions you took to make a positive difference for you and those around you?

Your actions in your words

To recognise the efforts of millions of Europeans who are already making a difference through their actions for a sustainable future and to inspire millions who are looking for new ways to make a positive difference, the EEA is organising ‘Our Environment : Our Future’, a communication campaign, offering a platform to tell the story of our collective effort for a sustainable future through your words and your actions.

What are we looking for?

In 500-1000 characters, your story should briefly describe the environmental issue you aimed to address and then focus on the positive difference you made. These could be creative fixes to your clothes, organising local clean-up days, inventing new recipes to reduce your family’s food waste, establishing community gardens and cycling paths, planting trees in cities and anything in between or beyond!

Why participate?

To show our collective efforts for a sustainable future and inspire many more actions, your story could be featured in the EEA's communication efforts to complement the many environmental issues covered by our assessments and reports.

How could a story look? Here is an example...

Since my childhood, I have been spending my summer holidays on a small coastal village in the northern Aegean. Once a rather isolated beach, it has become a tourist hotspot in recent years, catering to growing numbers of beachgoers.

Marine and plastic litter have become a real issue. Remembering how that beach was 40 years ago, I find it hard to accept the litter brought by the sea and beachgoers. So every summer, I organise a beach clean-up day with a small community of about 20 volunteers, where we actively go through the beach and collect what we can.

It is amazing to see how much litter can be hiding in plain sight among the pebbles and on the seabed. From discarded fishing lines and hooks to fragmented plastic pieces, we collect bags of litter. I think we make a small but important difference. At least now our beach is cleaner and safer for wildlife.
