The first digital map of the multiple changes that have occurred in Europe's landscapes since 1990 was unveiled today, enabling policy-makers to draw lessons from how their decisions in areas such as agriculture and transport are impacting on the region's finite land resources and the wider environment.

The Network of European Environment Protection Agencies held its 3rd meeting in Stirling, UK, on 9 10 September 2004. There were representatives from agencies from 28 countries, as well as from the European Commission and the European Environment Agencies. The meeting was hosted jointly by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Environment Agency for England and Wales, who both provided an overview of the UK environment at the start of the meeting.
European Mobility Week 2004 is running from 16 to 22 September with 'Safe streets for children' as its central focus. Over 340 towns and cities in 35 countries are participating, with 950 organising an 'In town without my car' day during Mobility Week to encourage citizens to try alternatives to driving. Information prepared for the EEA's latest report on transport and environment, due out next month, shows that Saturday night is the most dangerous time of the week for young people on the roads.
