The EU is tracking its transition to a more circular economy using a monitoring framework. This framework is based on existing data and covers only essential elements of the transition. This enabled the framework to be set up quickly and avoid unnecessary costs. To complement this overview, the EEA is exploring opportunities to collect and use data from new sources to better understand how the EU economy is changing. This briefing discusses four data sources used to develop new indicators for circular economy processes that are difficult to monitor with current data.
