During the last decade important land use and land cover changes can be observed in the 10 kilometres coastal strip in the five European Regional seas
EU-15 refers to 15 old EU Member States prior to May 2004 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), EFTA-4 to the four EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), EU-12 to 12 new EU Member States as of January 2007 (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) and CC-1 to the candidate country Turkey.
The figures do not include greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation and maritime transport.

Bars show the degree to which Member States have proposed sites that are considered sufficient to protect the habitats and species mentioned in Habitats Directive Annex I and II (situation June 2006) (marine species and habitats are not considered)
The share of renewables above refers to production and therefore it does not necessarily match exactly the share
Negative shares of electricity indicate exports and the reverse is true for imports.
